No, the elevator was damaged before Ted Tippets and unknown got involved.   Daniel Cate made a coup in Viet Nam.  At the end of his enlistment, he reupped for the Variable Reenlistment Bonus which as a Tech Inspector and 6 years, was $10,000.  Normally, the VRB was paid out over the term of the enlistment to reduce the impact of taxes.  Since we were paying no taxes in Viet Nam, Cate got the Army to pay the VRB in a lump sum that Cate put into the Overseas Savings Program at 10% a year (that was high for interest in 1967).  Cate's only problem was that Overseas Savings Program had a maximum of $10,000.  So Daniel received an interest check every six months for $500.     There were legitimate reasons for hypo needles in the unit as Dennis Demary is demonstrating.  Another windshield gets replaced.  Al Bruss on the right. Tin Lizzie is down for a busted rear axle.  We found one downtown with some bartering.
